This has, and always will be, a participatory sport; we thank those of you who help paste, help tear down, and other things but we are seeing a trend for some to not help and put more work on the rest of the group. Those that continuously do not help will not be invited back into the future. Thank you for all your hard work and support through this last year, we hope to see you through 2018.

Combat Shoot is a Friendly Monthly Shooting Competition

Combat Pistol, or Practical Shooting, is credited to have been established by Jeff Cooper in the late 60’s.

PRACTICAL SHOOTING ACKNOWLEDGES THE ELEMENTS OF PRACTICAL DEFENSIVE HANDGUN USE: ACCURACY, POWER, AND SPEED.

It has since evolved into several different shooting competition sports like today’s IPSC, IDPA, ICORE, Steel Challenge and NRA Action Pistol to name just a few.

The focus at our Combat Shoot is not to teach you tactics, but rather to provide an environment for you to develop the ability to shoot well under pressure. Take this opportunity to build your overall proficiency with your handgun for defensive and sporting purposes. This all takes places under the supervision of multiple experienced Range Safety Officers.

PRACTICAL SHOOTING REQUIRES GOOD HAND-EYE COORDINATION, BUT IS NOT EXCEPTIONALLY PHYSICALLY CHALLENGING.

This opens the sport up to most anyone. Shooters of all shapes, sizes, and ages come to compete against themselves, and others of comparable skill level.

Combat Shoot is a unique opportunity to practice practical shooting skills. You get to:

  • draw from holsters
  • negotiate obstacles
  • use different positions to engage multiple targets
  • and perform reloads as stipulated in the course description

COST: $25

YOU MUST BE OVER 21 YEARS OF AGE TO PARTICIPATE.

A "COURSE OF FIRE" OR "STAGE" MAY REQUIRE FROM 8 TO 30 ROUNDS OR MORE TO COMPLETE.

Each month we present 2-3 different courses of fire or skill drills to challenge you. We run Maxon’s Combat Shoot like a  United States Practical Shooting Association style event.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED FOR MAXON’S COMBAT SHOOT?

The quick & easy answer is “Bring whatever you have.

  • a strong-side hip holster that completely covers the trigger guard. Avoid the flimsy nylon holsters, and stick with either a good Kydex or leather holster in which you can holster your handgun one-handed. Concealment holsters are welcome, but not ideal.
  • a minimum of 3-4 magazines, or 4-6 speed-loaders for revolvers.
  • eye/ear protection.
  • a reliable handgun (minimum caliber 9mm /.38 special).
  • approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Having extra ammo is always a smart idea. Ammo is also available for purchase in the gun store.
  • magazine holsters or pouches to hold your magazines on your belt.

SAFETY – First and Foremost

Our top priority at Maxon’s Combat Shoot is to educate shooters in how to apply the four main rules of gun safety in a competitive environment.

  • Always Treat Every Firearm As If It Is Loaded.
  • Always Keep The Firearm Pointed In A Safe Direction.
  • Always Be Sure Of Your Target And What Is Behind It.
  • Keep Your Finger Off The Trigger Until Your Sights Are On The Target.

We don’t care how fast you shoot the stages; all we care about is that you do it in a safe manner.

Failure to follow the safety rules will get you a warning at minimum, and disqualified from the match at maximum.

MAXON’S RUNS A COLD RANGE – MEANING...

    • ALL firearms remain unloaded and IN THE HOLSTER AT ALL TIMES.
    • There are only two locations where you may handle your firearm out of the holster
      1. at the SAFETY TABLE area

      2. under the direct supervision of a qualified Range Safety Officer (RSO) at the shooting line
    • IF your firearm is visible out of the holster at ANY other time YOU WILL BE SENT HOME IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT A REFUND

We take the rules of Gun Safety seriously and expect you to do the same.
